An Afternoon in the Sunshine with Victoria Zschommler
For photographer Victoria Zschommler, summer is about enjoying the salty days, simple pleasures and slower pace that the season brings.
In recent years, this time has blissfully expanded to welcome baby Tilde, Victoria’s one-and-a-half-year-old daughter.
We recently visited Victoria’s home to discuss life as a mum, her plans for the summer and what’s on the horizon for the year ahead.
Baby Tilde turns two in July. What has motherhood taught you?
Wow, when did that happen? I still feel like a new mum, two sounds so big! Motherhood has been the biggest life lesson yet. The responsibility of another life that you have so much love for is extreme. I feel so fortunate to do what I love for work; I live and breathe it, but Tilde has taught me to set my own boundaries and move through life differently. It’s been a really special shift, but one that hasn’t come without challenges along the way of course.
In what ways has Tilde surprised you?
I didn’t think I was ever very good around kids, but this girl loves me so much that I think I must be doing something right!
Describe this time of year for you. How do you like to spend it?
I am definitely a warm weather person, so this time of year is a dream for me. Each year my husband and I, and now Tilde, spend a good amount of time with my family in Currumbin and the Byron hinterland. Getting salty, sandy and carefree is the greatest. My dad is a chef and shows his love to us through cooking, so we eat incredible food the entire time and feel refreshed for the year ahead.
What’s on the horizon for 2023?
I will continue to find personal happiness in my work and family life. We will spend time back in Paris as a family for my work, and a big-ish renovation on our kitchen will also commence soon, so that’ll keep us on our toes!
